So I've been looking back at some of my old art lately and it's pretty interesting.

Some of it it seems pretty genius:

I actually really like that drawing. Even though it may be a bit wonky shape wise and dull colour wise. I remember at the time 2 years ago(?) when I drew it, some of my friends where like, whats the robot doing there? it's so out of place. The girl looks a bit like Pocahontas, and the zombie bear is a bit emo lol. BECAUSE it's a time traveling hoop snake style vortex dragon and he clearly needs a robot friend to tell him the co-ordinance, the bear is a bit of a emo, but that's why it's friends with Pocahontas dammit! She'd be all like caaannnn you paint with all the colours of the wind? -and the bear thing would be like wow you've changed the scope of my mental horizons. Is there any way we can restore justice in this barren land. Then this dragon would be like I'M FROM THE FUTURE EFF-YEAH BUDDY NO TIME TO EXPLAIN LETS HAVE MAGICAL ADVENTURES"

haahaha worst ideas ever. Sometimes it's hard to know if you're ideas are good or bad, or sort of good but bad, or bad but so bad that you should just do whatever anyway. or else it's better to just draw something then worry too much etc.

I think my friends all had valid criticisms probably just need to find that compromise.

It turns out keeping an interesting blog is hard work. Every time I come back to post it's a year later and I read my last post like "who is this psychopath!?"

In keeping with the theme of uninteresting posts here's a picture of SOME BUBBLES ^

I'm thinking of doing a short animation or maybe a demoscene demo if I am able to using a tool or some short cut way that's quick enough to maintain my interest.

Played some Mount and Blade, pretty funny. badish graphics with 400 enemies on screen equals good times had by all. Nice gesture based control scheme, really interested in what people do with that sort of thing in the future.

Hello! Faithful blog readers (:P) I know I haven't posted for a certain long amount of time, but I'm back for the moment anyways.
It's pretty much the usual "No I'm not dead, I've been working etc." story. I've also been trying to learn music. Dabbling in some Ableton Live (which I recommend)
some of it is posted up on soundcloud I'm half working on an album that'll I'll put up on Bandcamp once I'm finished, but atm I'm not sure if I should go super weird and like me sounding, stuff that 90% of people will hate, or try to make something more melodic and grooving which is harder and doesn't feel like my thing, (although once it works it's really good to listen to) .... anyways dunno what I'm talking about now ... basically I've been trying to make music and lost that art focus, but I'm trying to get back into it.

I did this drawing when I was thinking about user generated content in games, and how people are complaining life is like "choose your own reality" and us, or gamers are so disconnected with reality that when we come to real world stuff like climbing "the corporate ladder" we don't know what we are doing. I think thats a bit BS, but in a way, we do shape the world around us. So I think it's important to know what sort of reality we want to make... then make reality that reality to a certain extent. We look at nature, and we make art and participate in nature, but then we try and conform that nature to aspects of our art. In good and bad taste.

I did this pixel art animation a while ago, was pretty fun.

I've also been drawing random shapes which I call "undynamic" drawing. which is probably the most fun i've had drawing in a while. I will try and scan/colour some and upload them.

I guess a while ago, I found making art, a but unfun, and then I tried a bit of music, then that gave me some ideas for art and I sorta found "the fun" again. Interestingly.

Also lately I have been a bit inspired by the "reality is nothing" attitude of demoscene people. It's sorta like, if you want to do something, use your imagination or whatever, why not, just give it a go.

I'm also working on some songs which I might post if I can find a good way of embedding them. Or get a soundcloud page or something. I've also been a bit inspired by this funky sounding music by Budos and downloading albums from demovibes

scribble i did while thinking about what sorta music i might try to make. Ive been trying out the Korg DS-10 a bit more and its really fun. You can make some pretty complex stuff on it, I like it a lot. Interesting learning about all the synth controls like LFO and envelope generators etc.

I've been thinking I should really do some more 3d stuff, or more finished paintings. but I'll see how I go I guess. I just need to find some low poly inspiration again.

I bought the indie games pack on whatever website (im not going to link it because im a jerk) and I downloaded Azkata or something(worst), like 12 times with it failing, and it wasted all me downloads. meeeeeee dowwwwwnloads nnoooo. so now I'm capped like a fool. which is similar to normal just more capped. anyways, I works been really tiring me out lately and I can barely get into some games , though I finished machinarium and am powering through like eufloria etc. And Yet It Moves should have been called, An Yet It's Not That Fun. insta-deatherpalooza if I ever saw one- but anyways I havent been making much art because of work. but I though it'd get back into it , with this low poly character here :O work in progress, but I know. it's already changed your life with its majestical drastic polytastic beauty. I call it Poly the polys. 778 of them to be exact, I was going to 500 but yknow we all make mistakes. shes meant to be like a regular girl, possibly in a band or something, whatevs, like a random ambient person.

This is a coloured verison of this bear character I drew a while ago. I was planning on putting it up on patchtogether as a toy design, but the otherone although it got a possitive reaction, people have to love it for them to make it into an actual toy figurine. Also he doesnt exactly make that much sense 3Dimensionally, so I kinda just finished him off.

also ive been doing some musical experiments lately, so I havent been doing much art or photoshop painting type stuff.

I think gandhi said something along the lines of like, i like christ but not all those dicks. today i kinda think he has a point in a way.

also i painted this picture today. I wanted to see if I could paint as good as I can digitally, but I can't. it's pretty tricky to enough get the colour you want, and its like you cant do fine details with out a tiny brush. I guess thats why everyone loves traditional painting so much. like music, its nothing without the carpal tunnel syndrome that makes it art apparently. I turned it into a finger painting and it was still pretty fun, like kindergarten I guess. i think it looks better black and white.

it's a bad verison of what i saw out my window when i was lying upside down on my bed. butterflies kinda seemed cool

I havent done much stuff at home lately so Ill post this.

I know they may look a bit fractal terrrrorrrrdactyl or something, but I was just playing round with some weird techniques. I didnt spend too long on it, but I kinda was able to quickly make some kinda mood, which was the kinda dealy i was going for.

the ring thingos are similar to these rings i saw in a ad for an art gallery that some kids threw away on the train one day.

went i was making this i was kinda thinking about like the lost woods and the skull kids from zelda etc, or like people painting circles to represent mountains etc kinda thing. anyways, i dunno if you can have to much chromatic shift :P

hopefully ill get round to doing some more practice and make some epic stuff haha

I really need faster internetsz. Downloading updates for my ps3 is taking ages for some reasons.

Haven't done much art lately though in general. I've been really tired.

Still doing a little bit on my point and click adventure game. nothing major though. It's going to be pretty silly based on what I've done so far. I was going for a carboard cutout with stickers style, but after playing Little Big Planet I feel like I might just be copying that stylet too much. I also wanted to have real photo sprites, but now that Axel and Pixel game has come out, it does that style way better than I could easily do. There's also games like Machinarium that have just come out which make me a little bit discouraged in terms of being able to make something thats at least a bit original. I guess I have to keep in mind that I've just doing something for fun, so it doesn't really matter if I fail and it's good art practice anyways.

Here's the first work in progress screen for my first try with Adventure Game Studio. It's going to be a magical and mystical journey of self discovery. I don't really usually like "adventure games" that much because of all the "look; you see a chair. use; can't use that." that goes on, but I thought it might be fun to make my own anyways.

I played through the new Left4Dead DLC today. Was kinda cool, but a bit more of the same-ish. I liked the generators that you had to keep going towards the end, but I would have liked something more dramatic like the roof tops or the boat house.

Lately I've just downloaded the lastest Left4Dead DLC, haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

I also recently checked out the alpha client for Love and it's looking pretty nice still, though it hurts my computer somewhat. I really like what he's doing with that concept-y sunset. Looks a bit fresh.

It's got me thinking again about, if we are always making stuff or consuming media, then what is the point of it all anyways? I mean it's as hard as it's always been to make a movie, but I think it's harder now to make a good movie... in a way. I guess what I mean is, apart from the usual originality discussions, the first time something was done it was done for a reason. Then after that it's done because it made someone a lot of money. Since I think we are trying to "do stuff" and represent that with money to make things easier, some times I wonder what it is exactly I'm trying to do and what I should focus on. Hmm.

I do this by scribbling then vectoring. means it's really quick that way and you felt like you've draw something for the day.

did this sparrow vector in ... 27 minutes wooo :P (did some hyperspace equations based on when i posted a facebook status, pretty profesh I know). I think that made it a bit jaggy ratehr than cute sparrow like, but I like the effect.

I dunno about sparrows been worthless, I kinda like them a lot. not in a lust for sparrow blood kinda way, but it's cool seeing the ones at the station hop about, and they eat pretty much invisible particles that no one else can see.

which leads me to believe that sparrows have some kinda antimatter power absorbing thingo, but I doubt it. I guess the point is that even though they are small little guys they still have enough. anyways since this is a pretty long post i'll cap it off with some dark poetry.

Finished it I guess, yay! looks pretty yuk lol. I originally had some ok looking pink shading, but then I mixed in a bit more brown and it went to this odd gray colour and I ruined! it somewhat. still it was pretty fun to do and only took like half an hour to an hour or something. ... plus 10 minutes in the oven etc.

One problem i did have though, is that when i was trying to paint it i was tangled in headphones and I was trying to eat ice cream, so it was a sorta ... odd situation.

I also regret making it an evil looking boar, when i could have made something friendler.

Did some zbrushing on this alien guy for fun. I also tried out mudbox but it crashed after 2 subdivides :(

It's just the default material then in PS made it blue, drew in an eye and drew in some rim lights.

The head looks a bit broken and a lot of it doesn't really connect well, but what the hey.

Doing some 3D stuff is good for taking my mind of some other things that are worrying me atm.
